It is composed almost entirely of the colourful porcelains made in China during the eighteenth century, and especially of the monochrome glazes that are renowned for their constant purity of tint, and for complementing perfectly the delicate symmetry of the forms they cover. The display of these wares in the newly designed gallery at l’Hermitage in Lausanne in January 2003 gave a brilliant public airing to a collection that was made solely for private pleasure, and bears witness to its owner’s special appreciation of porcelain. » excerpt from the introductory text « The Vergottis Collection of Chinese Porcelain at the Fondation de l’Hermitage in Lausanne » by John Ayers.
