The plate decorated in the famille rose palette, with a central mythological medallion after the print “Femme nue et satyre” of the French artist Claude Duflos père (1665-1727). In a landscape, sitting at the foot of a flat hill beneath a tree is depicted a bearded satyr to whom a young woman is refusing his advances. In the background, the silhouette of a village can be seen by the edge of a river.

The theme of the satyr has been widely disseminated in Western art and embodies bestiality and lust. In iconography, it is also found under the guise of the indiscreet observer. It is often depicted, in contrast to its apparent ugliness, among graceful young nymphs.
